1 dead, 4 hospitalized after crash south of Longmont

Mountain View Fire Rescue said five cars were involved in the collision on U.S. 287 Friday.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — One person is dead and four others were hospitalized after a five-car crash near Longmont Friday. 

Mountain View Fire Rescue posted on social media Friday afternoon that a call came into Boulder County Dispatch that multiple cars were involved in a high-speed, head-on collision on U.S. 287 south of Oxford Road and Longmont. A total of five cars were part of the crash. 

Mountain View Fire said one person died at the scene and four were taken to hospitals, three of whom were critically injured. 

The person who died has been identified as Douglas Gin, 58.

Colorado State Patrol and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office are investigating the crash. 

U.S. 287 was closed for the investigation and clean-up. It reopened just before 5 p.m.
