Police have released the names of the men who died in a crash on Interstate 25 Friday evening.
Simon Mejia, 40, Valentine “Timothy” Baca, 40, and Marcos Johnson,15, were driving northbound on the interstate when their SUV swerved off the road and crashed into a culvert 15 feet deep.
Police say all men died at the scene.
Currently, they aren’t looking at drugs or alcohol as a factor.
On Sunday family gathered at the crash site to pay their respects.
“Moving forward it's going to be tough it's going to be tough,” said Israel Reyes, cousin to both Baca and Mejia.
The two men were cousins who started a moving company together. Johnson was the son of Mejia’s girlfriend and had been traveling back from a moving job when the crash happened.
“It’s a huge, huge loss,” Reyes said surrounded by embraced family. “Tim graduated, had three kids, a wife. Simon was in the process of asking his girlfriend to marry him is what he told me.”
Car fragments still litter the crash site. Police and family are asking the public for information as they try to find out how it happened.
“It's tragic that three lives had to be lost for whatever reason it may be,” Reyes said.
In a time like this it can be hard to find the drop of good in the bad, but for this family it was found in their embraces.
“Congregation gets together for comradery and for the strength,” Reyes said looking at his aunt and uncle by his side. “That's why our family is as tight as it is. That's why, as my uncle was saying there's no obstacle we can't overcome. We can overcome any one of them as a unit, as a family.”
Police are asking anyone who saw this crash to come forward.
They say hearing accounts of what happened will help them piece together how it happened.
