FORT COLLINS COLORADOAN - The man accused of carrying a fake gun into Colorado State University's library Tuesday night faces misdemeanor charges for an incident that simultaneously sparked discussion about the university's on-campus gun policy and emergency alert system.
Daniel King, 49, was arrested at gunpoint and led out of Morgan Library in the heart of campus about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday. CSU police officers cleared the area near where King was sitting and took him into custody without incident, ultimately finding a replica gun that "very closely resembles" a real firearm, police said.
King was booked into the Larimer County jail and has been charged with disorderly conduct for displaying a simulated weapon, a Class 2 misdemeanor, court records show. Under Colorado law, the charge alleges King displayed an object "in a manner to cause a person to reasonably believe that the article is a deadly weapon" or indicated he was armed "in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm."
