3 children injured in deck collapse in Evergreen

Three children were taken to the hospital with minor injures after a deck collapsed during a party, Elk Creek Fire said.

EVERGREEN, Colo. — Three children were taken to the hospital by ambulance after a deck collapsed during a party in Evergreen Saturday afternoon.

Elk Creek Fire Department said crews responded around 1:50 p.m. after the deck collapse was reported during a child's birthday party in the 8500 block of Armadillo Trail.

Firefighters initially said about 50 people were on the deck when it collapsed. On Sunday, the fire department said they were told that while there were 40 to 50 people at the party at one point, there were only "a handful" of people on the deck when it collapsed.

The children were between the ages of 5 and 10, Elk Creek Fire said. Three children were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Each suffered minor injuries.

"Fortunately there was no one under the deck when it collapsed, and fortunately it was mostly a lot of bumps and bruises," Elk Creek Fire spokesperson Bethany Urban said.

The fire department said more children were taken to the hospital by their parents.
