EVANS, Colorado — An Evans police officer fatally shot a person who was the subject of a suspicious person call, the Greeley Police Department said.
Greeley police said on April 21 around 11:51 a.m., Evans officers were dispatched to a large property in the 4300-block of 37th Street on a report of a suspicious person who was armed.
Officers found the person and tried to "de-escalate the situation," police said. The person refused to cooperate with the officers' commands, and they deployed less lethal weapons, police said. One officer eventually shot the person.
The man shot, identified as 65-year-old Manuel Moreno of Evans by the Weld County Coroner's Office, was taken to the hospital where he died due to his injuries.
Police have not released any other information about the call or what led up to the shooting.
No officers or bystanders were injured, according to police.
The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Respond Team is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call CIRT Detective Robert Cash with the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9601.
