Elway's Cherry Creek closing its doors after 20 years

The Cherry Creek West project requires the closure, though Elway's said it's working on a "post-construction" location.

DENVER — One of the Denver metro's most high-profile steakhouses is closing its doors after two decades of business.

Elway's Cherry Creek will have its last day on Aug. 31. The closure is due to a redevelopment project, according to the restaurant's website.

The Denver's Cherry Creek commercial district's $1 billion redevelopment, known as Cherry Creek West, covers the area where Elway's, a running store and a parking lot currently stand.

The steakhouse said in a statement on its website that it's working with developers to determine a new location after construction is done.

"We have been honored to have been your dining choice throughout the years for special events and family celebrations, and we hope to see you this month to thank you personally," reads the message on the Elway's website.

The owners, Broncos Hall of Famer John Elway and Tim Schmidt, opened Elway's Cherry Creek 20 years ago. The restaurant's menu features U.S.D.A hand cut prime steaks, fish, a vast wine list and more.
