DENVER — Denver East High School will have additional security Monday after a threat was posted on social media, Denver Public Schools said.
"Today, we were made aware of a threat against East that was posted on a social media platform," the district said in an email Sunday. "We immediately notified the DPS Department of Safety who worked with the Denver Police Department. Both agencies have been investigating the message today. As a safety precaution, and to try to ease the concerns of our students and staff, we will have an additional safety presence at the school and the surrounding area on Monday. "
The district encouraged students to report any concerns to a trusted adult, to Safe2Tell or to the Denver Police Department.
"We recognize that this situation can bring up past memories that can be difficult to manage," the email continued. "Members of our counseling and mental health team will be ready to assist students and staff who may need additional support."
