CENTENNIAL, Colo. — One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after multiple fights were reported at Eaglecrest High School during a basketball game with a rival school.
According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, deputies were working the game at the school located at 5100 S. Picadilly St. between Eaglecrest and rival Smoky Hill High School when a fight broke out around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.
There were fights both inside and outside of the school, according to the agency. As a result, the deputies at the school requested additional patrol deputies to respond for assistance.
About the same time, numerous 911 calls were made to report the fights. One person, a male, was injured during the fights and transported to the hospital by South Metro Fire Rescue. A spokesman for the fire department said the victim had serious injuries.
A Cherry Creek School District spokesperson said the injured person is not a student. In a letter to Eaglecrest families, the principal said anyone found to have been involved in the fight will face disciplinary consequences.
The incident remains under investigation.
