VAIL, Colo. — Eagle County Paramedics Services are mourning the loss of one of their own who died Friday.
Steve Zuckerman was responding to a backcountry rescue call in Vail at the time of his death. He was 61. The paramedics services did not say what the cause of death was.
He started working part-time as a paramedic for Eagle County in April 2008 and joined the full-time staff in May 2013. He also worked for Beaver Creek Ski Patrol for more than 25 years
Zuckerman was a member of the Search and Rescue team, a field trainer and was training as a critical care paramedic.
He also served as medical director for World Cup races in Beaver Creek.
“EMS is a team sport and I work on an amazing team," Zuckerman said once in a social media post for Eagle County Paramedics Services. "Each day brings new challenges and new opportunities to practice field emergency medicine and to make a small difference.”
“Steve was one of the helpers,” said Eagle County Paramedic Services CEO Brandon Daruna. “He never missed an opportunity to contribute and his death leaves a giant void in our organization and community.”
