DENVER — Police said an intruder was shot and killed at an apartment near the University of Denver campus early Sunday morning.
Denver Police said the resident of the apartment inside One Observatory Park, a man, came home just before 1 a.m. and was startled by the intruder.
The resident shot the intruder, who died at the scene. The man was later identified as 27-year-old Nelson Kimathi. He died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner's office.
The resident is cooperating with the investigation, DPD said.
The shooting happened at an apartment building on East Evans Avenue just east of South University Boulevard.
Editor's note: A police spokesperson initially told 9NEWS the shooting happened at an on-campus apartment, but that information was wrong.
