Just before 4 p.m. on Saturday July 14, a fire broke out at 1426 S. Olathe Way, Aurora Fire Rescue said. A family and their three dogs were inside when the fire started.

The family and one dog made it out safely but the other two animals had to be rescued. One of them died in the fire but the other was cared for by Falck Rocky Mountain (Aurora’s 9-1-1 ambulance provider), Aurora Fire Rescue, the Aurora Police Department and Animal Control.

The dog was put on a stretcher and given oxygen before being taken to a vet for treatment.
