DENVER — A man was taken to the hospital after a reported house explosion in a southwest Denver neighborhood around 2 p.m. Monday, the Denver Fire Department said.
Firefighters saw light smoke coming from the house when they arrived, but the crews assessed the home and found an explosion. A man was taken to the hospital. The fire department did not know how serious his injuries were.
Denver Fire spokesperson J.D. Chism said fire crews were not able to fight this fire from inside the building because of structural damage, and crews were unable to get on the roof.
"We fought the fire from the outside," Chism said. "They were able to quickly get that fire extinguished."
Because of the complexity of the situation, multiple crews were called out. Chism said crews quickly had the fire under control and they didn't find any additional victims.
The department's collapse team was shoring up the building, and fire investigators were on the scene. A family was living in the home and they will be displaced, Chism said.
Fire investigators said the explosion was a gas explosion resulting from a corroded gas line.
