DENVER — The Denver Police Department is investigating the death of a jail inmate Thursday afternoon.
The Denver Sheriff Department said in a release that a man in their custody was found non-responsive in a housing unit at the Downtown Detention Center at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
A medical emergency team was immediately called and performed life-saving efforts, the release said, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Denver Police have opened a death investigation, according to the release, which is protocol when someone dies in the jail's custody.
