DENVER — More than 200 people attended a hiring event Friday for positions to support Denver's migrant families, and more than half of them were offered a job on the spot, according to a news release from the city Office of Human Resources (OHR).
This comes three days after Mayor Mike Johnston announced efforts to hire bilingual workers to assist with emergency migrant shelters, which have been crucial due to the increase in migrant arrivals to Denver. The city saw an average of nearly 300 daily arrivals in October.
The OHR interviewed a total of 250 people and offered positions to more than 150, according to the news release.

“We remain ready to respond to this unprecedented challenge for our city as migrants arrive seeking refuge and support,” said OHR Executive Director Kathy Nesbitt. “I am incredibly proud of how quickly our agency, led by the Talent Acquisition team, came together to meet this urgent need.”
The office said that those who did not get an interview due to the "overwhelming response" to this event can check the city's job website for updates on available positions.
