DENVER — Drivers with expired plates and temp tags have a short amount of time to get right with the law or risk getting pulled over and ticketed.
The Denver Police Department (DPD) announced they will start pulling over drivers and writing citations for expired registrations beginning Monday, July 15. The crackdown will run through Aug. 15, police said.
Citations for not having a car up-to-date is $95, which would be levied on top of drivers having to pay registration and renewal fees.
Drivers who live in Denver are required to register newly purchased or acquired vehicles in person at a Division of Motor Vehicles office in the city. Renewals on registrations can be done online or at a kiosk.
Aurora and Lakewood police ran targeted patrols earlier this year looking for scofflaws with expired plates and other registration violations. Lakewood said they wrote hundreds of citations during their crackdown.
