Dave the dog was found; he went missing after his owner was seriously injured in E-470 crash

Ken Schminke was put in an induced coma, and his family spent eight days looking for his dog.

AURORA, Colo. — After eight days of searching, Dave, a 7-year-old Australian Shepard, who went missing last week after his owner, Ken Schminke, was seriously injured in a crash on E-470, has been found.

Schminke was put an induced coma at UCHealth and his family put out a plea for help finding Dave.

Family members tracked him through the Highland Canal and located him in Green Valley Ranch. They were able to lure Dave in enough for Dave to smell them and Dave "was happy as could be!"

Dave's owner remains in the hospital Thursday but is expected to be woken up from his induced coma.

Dave the dog was found after missing for more than a week. Dave was in the car when his owner crashed on E-470 and was seriously injured.

Schminke's step-son, Frankie Menna, describes the relationship Schminke has with his dog, Dave, as an "unbelievable bond."

“There’s no doubt in my mind that the healing power that Dave will have over Ken is greater than any medicine can provide, any doctor can provide," Menna said.
