BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The University of Colorado is moving to fire a tenured philosophy professor who launched his own investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving two graduate students.
The alleged victim claimed associate professor David Barnett said she was "sexually promiscuous" and lied about the assault. The Daily Camera reports she reached a $825,000 settlement with the university this week.
Barnett's lawyer denies that he smeared the alleged victim and says he was trying to uncover the unfairness of the university's internal investigation into the alleged assault in 2012.Police didn't pursue charges in the case.
Lawyer Brian Moore says CU is trying to use his client to send a message to the rest of the philosophy department, which was criticized in a recent report for pervasive sexual harassment and bullying.
