SEDALIA, Colo. — A person was hit by a train in Sedalia Thursday afternoon and sheriff's investigators are trying to figure out what led up to the crash.
"The train was able to stop as soon as it could. They discovered the victim about a quarter mile, half a mile south of the northbound tracks," said Cocha Heyden from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. near the area of Platte Avenue and Karcher Street. The sheriff's office said the incident is a death investigation and that they would release more information when it becomes available.
The sheriff did not know the name of the person who was hit and killed. The Douglas County Coroner's Office was on the scene of the crash and will release the victim's name once they are positively identified.
Sheriff's deputies said they were going door-to-door to homes near the tracks to ask people if they saw or heard anything that may be related to the crash, or if they saw any people near the train tracks before the crash.
