GREELEY – A cow that fell through the ice into an approximately 8-foot-deep section of a creek Wednesday afternoon is now back in the pasture with only minor lacerations thanks to Greeley firefighters.

The Greeley Fire Department first learned of the cow's predicament at around 12:35 p.m. The cow was trapped in a creek near 3791 E. 18th Street adjacent to the South Platte River.

Firefighters say the cow had been in the water at least 45 minutes prior to the call.

Rescuers secured a utility rope to the cow's torso and pulled her to safety with help from a Weld County loader.

A veterinarian was sent to the scene, but ultimately wasn't need.

A total of eight Greeley Fire Department employees helped with the rescue, which took around an hour.
