Coroner: Fort Collins shooting was murder-suicide

A man shot and killed his grandson and then turned the gun on himself Thursday at his home in southwest Fort Collins.

FORT COLLINS - A man shot and killed his grandson and then turned the gun on himself Thursday at his home in southwest Fort Collins.

Gene Kapperman, 73, shot Brandon Kapperman, 26, once in the chest and once in the head, according to autopsy reports from the Larimer County Coroner's Office. He then killed himself.

Fort Collins police and other emergency personnel responded to reports of the shooting shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday at the residence on Thompson Drive, near the intersection of South Shields Street and Trilby Road. Police confirmed that they found both men dead in the residence.
