LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A construction worker was taken to the hospital on Thursday afternoon after falling about 40 feet down a elevator shaft in Lakewood, according to West Metro Fire Rescue (WMFR).
A technical rescue crew responded to the construction site at West Quincy Avenue and South Pierce Way, and used ladders to climb down the shaft and stabilize the worker.
Firefighters then used a rope system and an on-site crane to lift the worker up and out of the elevator shaft, according to WMFR.
Officials said the worker's injuries are not life-threatening.
