Community fundraiser honors mother, son killed in Douglas County

Friends and loved ones attended a pancake fundraiser Saturday to honor Angel Meyers and her son Dane Timms.

PARKER, Colo. — Friends and family gathered Saturday to honor a young boy and mother killed in an apparent double murder and suicide in Douglas County.

Investigators believe Brandon Timms killed Angel Meyers before driving their son, Dane Timms, to a nearby trailhead, where he killed the boy and himself.

“I don’t think any question will ever be answered, you know?" Meyers' friend Kari Ploysa said. "We can’t imagine what he was thinking. What was going through their minds at the time. All I can hope is that it was painless.”

Ploysa and dozens of others attended a pancake fundraiser Saturday morning hosted by the group Dads of Parker.

At the fundraiser, many shared stories of the young boy.

“All he wanted to do was cuddle with you and love on you," Ploysa said. "I remember him sitting there and pulling on my ear, because that would be his comfort, just sitting there rubbing your ear. He was just a sweet soul.”

Friends said Dane had autism and was nonverbal, something his mother hoped to create awareness for through creative shirts she would sell at various events.

According to friends, Meyers is survived by a teenage daughter, who is now left without a mother and brother.

“They need to worry about healing and trying to cope with the situation they’ve been dealt with, so we just want to alleviate that burden,” event organizer Will Sergeant said.

Ploysa said Dane meant the world to Meyers.

“There’s been sadness. There’s been disbelief. There’s been anger. All the different stages of grief, and I think it always will be there, especially since there are no answers,” she said.

By noon, Saturday's fundraiser had raised more than $10,000, according to organizers. The group has also set up a GoFundMe page to help the family
