MESA COUNTY, Colo. — An unclaimed, seemingly abandoned suitcase in Mesa County was found to contain thousands and thousands of suspected fentanyl pills, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday.
The Sheriff's Office said the discovery was made Thursday afternoon by the Western Colorado Drug Task Force during a check of a passenger bus. The Sheriff's Office didn't say where the bus was when it was checked.
There were approximately 100,000 pills in the suitcase. The haul weighed in at 22 pounds, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
The pills were said to be worth $500,000 to $1 million, the Sheriff's Office said.
Because the suitcase wasn't claimed, no one was arrested.
The Sheriff's Office said the drug task force makes routine checks of passenger buses on the Western Slope.
