EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — A man who had been missing since his car slid off a highway earlier this month has been found dead, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office said

Deputies said Henry Twitchell, who lives in El Jebel, was last seen in Carbondale on Jan. 4. Around 6 p.m. that day, his car slid off Highway 13 about 10 miles south of Meeker, the sheriff's office said. Twitchell was not there when deputies arrived, and deputies found a single set of footprints leading from the car to the highway.

Since then, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office Rio Blanco County and Garfield County Sheriff’s Offices have worked together to locate him.

Twitchell's cell phone was last pinged early the next morning, on Jan. 5, along Highway 13 in Garfield County, about 14 miles south of the crash scene.

Around 10 a.m. on Friday, the Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue and a dog from Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS) descended the area of mile marker 30 Highway 13 to perform an intense grid search of the area. They used the dog to conduct a search south and north along Highway 13.

Search and Rescue team members used probe poles to aid in their search due to the depth of the snow.

Twitchell was found at approximately 10:45 a.m. Friday across a sage-covered bluff in the bottom of a deep ravine, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.
