DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A man who was removed from the water at Chatfield Reservoir Sunday afternoon has died, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.
The man, in his 20s, was reported to have gone underwater near the Kingfisher area of the south end of the reservoir and never resurfaced, South Metro Fire Rescue said. The water rescue call came in just after 4:30 p.m.
Around 5:30 p.m., the man was removed from the water and taken to the hospital. South Metro Fire said the man was underwater for about 50 minutes.
The sheriff's office said Sunday evening that the drowning victim had died. They said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, but that it "appears to be nothing more than a tragic accident."
