CENTENNIAL, Colo. — No one was hurt but a Centennial home was damaged by a fire that started in a garage early Wednesday, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.
The fire department and Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office responded to the home on South Mobile Street in the area near South Buckley Road and East Orchard Road. They determined that two electric vehicles were inside the garage when the fire occurred.

One of the battery packs appeared to be damaged and burning, South Metro Fire said. That vehicle, a Jaguar, was moved out to the driveway and an EV fire blanket was placed on top of it to control the vehicle fire. It was later towed to a safe location while being escorted by law enforcement and firefighters.
Investigators determined that the fire was started in a 2019 Jaguar I-PACE. A recall was issued for the I-PACE last year because of a battery overheating problem, South Metro Fire Rescue said.
Water typically can't be used to put out these types of fires. Instead, single-use fire blankets are used to deprive the fire of oxygen. However, it can be a slow process that can take more than 12 hours.
Crews were checking to determine whether the fire had extended into the home. No injuries were reported.
A Hazardous Materials Team also responded along with members from Aurora Fire Rescue.
Last April, there was an explosion at an Erie home after firefighters used water in an attempt to put out a garage fire. The responding firefighters were unaware the vehicle inside was a hybrid vehicle.
