BRIGHTON, Colo. — A woman who police believe was distracted rear-ended a school bus Thursday morning in Brighton.
According to the Brighton Police Department, a woman driving an Acura MDX was traveling west about 8 a.m. on Bridge Street near 11th Avenue when she crashed into the back of the 27J School District bus that was stopped.
A district spokesman said a driver and 16 middle and high school students were on the bus when it was rear-ended. None of them had serious injuries, and none of them were transported from the scene by ambulance.
They were all evaluated at the scene by responding EMS as a precaution, the district said.
District staff were contacting the parents or guardians of each student directly. The district said some parents picked up their children for further medical evaluation, but only minor injuries were reported. The majority of students who were on the bus were being taken to school.
The driver of the Acura, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital by ambulance, according to police. Investigators said she was determined to be at fault for the crash but said speed and impairment are not believed to be factors.
