BOULDER, Colo. — A teenager who was missing for more than a week was found safe in Thornton Monday, according to the Boulder Police Department.

The 14-year-old girl was believed to have run away from her home. She was last seen at a Boulder High School football game on Sept. 30, police said. No one in her family had seen or spoken to her since.

Boulder police said Monday that they became aware of her disappearance late in the day on Oct. 1, when her father reported her missing. Because she did not have access to money or her medication, Boulder police said, they became increasingly worried about her safety. Police sent out an alert Saturday asking the public to be on the lookout for her.

Police said new information came to light that led them to the girl Monday. She was found at a home in Thornton around 5 p.m. and was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.

Police said they still believe the girl ran away, but they are investigating where she was and what happened while she was separated from her family. They said there's no indication that she was held against her will. They also said there's no indication of any risk to public safety.

"We never throughout the week had any indication that she was directly in harm's way," Boulder Police Deputy Chief Stephen Redfearn said Monday.
