Lockdown lifted at Boulder County high school, afternoon classes canceled for Boulder TEC

Arapahoe Ridge High School was on lockdown Tuesday while authorities investigated a report of a suspicious person. No suspicious activity or suspects were found.

BOULDER, Colo. — Arapahoe Ridge High School was briefly placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon while authorities investigated a report of a suspicious person.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office posted at 12:23 p.m. that deputies and Boulder Police Department officers were at the school at 6600 Arapahoe Road and that the school was on lockdown while they searched the area.

Just before 1:30 p.m., the sheriff's office said the school was thoroughly cleared and secured and that the lockdown had been lifted.

The initial caller reported a person on the roof who possibly had a gun.

Contractors were working on the roof at the time. The sheriff's office said the roof was searched and investigators checked the contractors, who were unarmed.

The Boulder Valley School District said classes would continue with a normal release time at Arapahoe Ridge, Boulder Universal and the Transitions Program.

Afternoon classes were canceled for Boulder TEC and Advanced Alternative Learning Program for Students.

"While there was no threat to the school at any time, we are incredibly grateful to our partners in law enforcement for their quick and professional response," the school district said in a letter to parents. "Thank you also to our students and staff, who did an excellent job throughout it all."

The district said its Trauma Response Team will be available Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning for any students needing support.
