Fire that evacuated entire town now fully contained

All 229 residents of the Colorado town of Boone were evacuated for several hours Thursday evening due to a fire in eastern Pueblo County. Residents are encouraged to use Highway 96 to get home quickly.

The fire that forced the evacuation of the entire town of Boone for several hours Thursday evening has been contained, the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office tweeted Friday evening.

The blaze, which started on Thursday afternoon, grew to 824 acres. More than firefighters battled the fire.

The evacuation of the whole town of Boone - 229 homes in all - was lifted as of 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.

One person was injured by the fire, according to the sheriff's office. That person, whose condition is unknown, has been taken to a local hospital.

Several more roads are closed, including Highway 95 east from the Pueblo Chemical Depot to the town of Fowler, Nepesta Road at Highway 50 and Highway 209 at Highway 50. First-responders are asking everyone nearby to avoid the area.
