KUSA - Cardboard, duct tape, plastic and some Colorado spirit are all the things you need to build a boat.
Residents and staff at Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial held their eighth annual boat regatta races Friday afternoon to benefit Alzheimer's Association research.
The teams are captained by a resident of the community who bets on the winning cardboard boat. Then the staff races the homemade boats in the outdoor pool.
This year's theme is 'Colorful Colorado'. Some boat names include The Sinkable Molly Brown and Mile High Salute.
Today's event raised $1,200.
Almost $10,000 has been raised for Alzheimer's research since the event was founded eight years ago.
