12-year-old boy killed in crash in Colorado

A driver did not stop at a stop sign and broadsided a second vehicle, in which the 12-year-old boy was sitting in the passenger seat, the Colorado State Patrol said.

BLACK FOREST, Colo. — A two-vehicle crash in El Paso County killed a 12-year-old on Friday night, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Herring and Shoup roads in Black Forest. CSP said a 75-year-old man from Colorado Springs did not stop at a stop sign and broadsided a second vehicle. 

Inside the second vehicle were a 50-year-old man from Colorado Springs and a 12-year-old boy, both of whom were taken to a hospital, CSP said. The driver sustained minor injuries, but the boy died shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to CSP.

The 75-year-old driver reportedly suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

CSP said drugs, alcohol and excessive speeding were not factors in the crash. No charges have been filed as of this publication.
