ESTES PARK, Colo — When a bear tore recently apart a car in Estes Park, it prompted a warning from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
"Bears are exceptionally smart, which means us humans have to be exceptionally bear smart," the CPW Northeast Region said in a tweet.
CPW has a whole list of recommendations for being "bear smart," such as not leaving food inside a vehicle, keeping windows and doors locked and cleaning out all garbage to eliminate any odors.
The bear got into the unlocked vehicle sometime overnight Friday into Saturday morning, the agency said. The car's owner spotted the bear in the morning and let it out of the vehicle.
CPW said it didn't find any food or other items inside the vehicle that could have enticed the bear, but it could have been eaten by the bear before they checked the vehicle out.
CPW suspects the same bear broke into another vehicle a few houses away and was rewarded with some food.
