DENVER — Negotiations ended Thursday night without an agreement for a new contract for thousands of union members who work at King Soopers and City Market stores across Colorado, according to a release from the union.
Kim Cordova, the president of the United Food and Commerical Workers (UFCW) Local 7, said King Soopers and City Market left in the middle of scheduled bargaining on Thursday and accused the company of "not bargaining in good faith".
As a result of the failed negotiations, the release from the union said members would be forced to vote on a proposal that is "unacceptable" and would likely make a choice to authorize a strike.
Their current contract ended Jan. 12, and bargaining has been ongoing since mid-December, the union said.
King Soopers spokesperson Adam Williamson said the corporate team has "made themselves available to continue negotiating with the union."
In a statement, King Soopers/City Market said: "As negotiations continue, our stores and associates will serve our communities as they always have. To be clear our offer makes significant investments in our associates:
- Increase in wages
- Incremental investments to the employee pension plan
- Continued investment to best in class healthcare at no additional cost
We know our associates are the heart of King Soopers/City Market and we will continue to negotiate with them and our communities in mind."
More than 12,000 workers represented by UFCW Local 7 work at 109 King Soopers and City Market stores in Colorado.
