Backyard fire spreads to 2 homes in Denver’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, large plume of smoke seen

The fire happened in the area of West 8th Avenue and Mariposa Street at the same time as another blaze in downtown Denver.

DENVER — A fire that started in a backyard in Denver’s Lincoln Park neighborhood Friday afternoon quickly spread to two homes due to windy conditions.

“We basically had two working house fires at the same time,” said Robert Murphy, a shift commander for the Denver Fire Department.

The fire happened in the area of West 8th Avenue and Mariposa Street. Murphy said he could see both homes still being habitable, but that there was still heavy damage.

No one was injured, and Murphy said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Dispatchers received a call about this blaze at around the same time that multiple firefighters were called to a high-rise in downtown Denver for an apartment fire, according to Murphy.

This meant that firefighters had to battle traffic to respond to the second fire at 8th and Mariposa.

“It’s tough to manage,” Murphy said. “We had a great dispatch that put that together.”
