AVON, Colo. — Police believe a man who was found on the side of a highway in Eagle County Tuesday evening was hit by a driver who then left the scene.
The Avon Police Department said around 6:50 p.m., a driver called 911 and reported that a man was on the side of Highway 6 just west of Stonebridge Drive. First responders tried to resuscitate the man, but he died on the scene. Police said they are investigating the man's death as a vehicular homicide hit-and-run.
Police said the half-mile portion of Highway 6 between Avon Road and Stonebridge Drive was closed due to the investigation.
Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call 970-479-2201 and ask for an Avon police officer.
