AURORA, Colo. — A young girl was seriously hurt in a crash in Aurora Saturday afternoon.
The Aurora Police Department said officers responded to a report of a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of East Smoky Hill Road and Pheasant Run Parkway at around 3 p.m. Saturday. When they got there, they found a four-year-old girl who had been seriously hurt in the crash. She was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver being blamed for the crash, a 29-year-old man, was attempting to make a left-hand turn in front of traffic when he was struck broadside by an oncoming vehicle in the rear passenger door where the girl was sitting. She was not in a car seat, according to police.
The vehicle carrying the girl then crashed into a third vehicle that was sitting at a red light, according to police.
Investigators do not suspect that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
The westbound lanes of Smoky Hill Road were closed at Pheasant Run Parkway for hours during the investigation.
