You might remember those Frontier Airlines TV commercials that made Grizwald the Grizzly Bear and Foxy the Fox famous. But now you can add another character, thanks to the kids at Aspen Crossing Elementary School: Marty the Marmot.
Third and fourth graders from Aspen Crossing have been writing letters to Frontier for more than a year in a campaign to add Marty to the long list of critters that appear on the tails of Frontier aircraft.
On Tuesday, students from kindergarten through the fifth grade cheered “Marty! Marty! Marty!” as a hangar door opened to reveal the new marmot picture on the aircraft.
The airline was impressed with the perseverance of the kids and agreed to add Marty to Frontier’s cast of characters.
In addition to being a lot of fun, Aspen Crossing Principal Scott Schleich said this was also about activism and advocacy, and teaching young people they can make a difference.
Aspen Crossing Elementary is in the Cherry Creek School District, located in Araphoe County near Quincy Avenue and Reservoir Road.
Editor’s Note: Earlier this year Frontier Airlines announced a contest among schools to have school mascots featured on Frontier aircraft but later canceled the contest. A 9NEWS television version of this story incorrectly connected the Aspen Crossing campaign to a contest. We regret this error.
