ARVADA - July is historically the most expensive month for insurance claims, with most of the damage coming from hail, according to the insurance industry.

Many Arvada residents experienced hail damage to their property after Monday night's storm. Jeff Stokevis along with many of his neighbors spent much of the day raking up leaves and cleaning up the mess.

"All a sudden the wife came in the den and got all excited and said, 'look outside!' And I looked outside, and boy the hail just started," Stokevis said.

The hail tattered his fence, littered his house and driveway with leaves. Stokevis says the hail broke two car windshields, a skylight on his motor home and left holes in his roof.

"Throwing rocks at a window, that's what it sounded like when the hail was coming down," Stokevis said.

Stokevis and his neighbors say it will likely take them a few days to clean up the leaves. They say their insurance company will take care of everything else.

"That's why we have insurance. They will take care of it," Stokevis said.

Carol Walker, a spokesperson for the Colorado Insurance Industry, says home and car owners should speak with their insurance agents as soon as possible about the specifics of their policy. She says it's important to be clear on what is covered so there aren't any surprises if a disaster happens.
