The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a possible scam .
In the scam, a caller claims to be holding a person's loved one. They say they will release them for money.
It almost happened to a woman in Aurora. Mary Lou Hendricks says she received a call telling her that her son had been in a car accident.
The caller then said that the person Hendricks' son hit was wanted by police, therefore couldn't be taken to the hospital. The caller then said that they were holding Hendricks' son hostage, demanding that Hendricks come up with money to help pay for a private health care provider of the person her son hit.
