ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified a woman who was found dead in a burning house the day before.
The coroner's office did not specify how Simone Austin, 53, died because of an ongoing investigation.
About 10 a.m., neighbors called 911 about smoke coming from the roof of a house in the 600 block of North Bersshine Street, in a neighborhood south of Interstate 70 and east of Powhaton Road. Six fire departments responded, as did Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies, said Ginger Delgado, spokesperson for the sheriff's office.
Before firefighters arrived, neighbors had knocked on the door and no one answered. When firefighters entered the home, they found Austin's body.
Neither Delgado nor Caleb Connor, assistant fire chief for Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue, said how she died. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire. Delgado said there's no danger to the community and deputies aren't looking for anyone.
The fire was extinguished and contained to the interior of the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
