Fire displaces residents of 12 units at Denver apartment complex

The Denver Fire Department said wind was pushing the fire that caused serious damage to the structure.

DENVER — The Denver Fire Department called in a second-alarm response to battle a wind-driven fire at an apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

Denver Fire said the fire at the TAVA Waters Apartments near East Mississippi Avenue and South Valentia Street started around 3:30 p.m.

They called in a second alarm when the fire spread to a second floor, and because heavy winds were pushing the blaze, Denver Fire said 24 fire units and about 64 firefighters responded.

Crews moved to a defensive strategy, where they fight the fire from the outside, because parts of the building were collapsing, according to the fire department.

There were no reports of injuries, but residents of all 12 units in the building were displaced.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
