Man shot by deputies in Adams County

The Adams County Sheriff's Office said they were checking on a possibly suicidal man when the shooting happened.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A man was taken to the hospital after deputies shot him in Adams County Saturday. 

The Adams County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the 7600 block of Heather Place at 4:42 p.m. Saturday to check on a man who was possibly suicidal.

The sheriff's office said deputies were in contact with the man until 5:20 p.m., when they shot him. He was armed with an axe or something similar, according to the sheriff's office, and deputies gave several commands for him to drop it as he approached them.

The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and his condition is unknown, according to the sheriff's office. No deputies were hurt.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting.
