Adams County Sheriff's Office mourns deputy lost to cancer

The Sheriff's Office asks the public to keep his friends and family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Deputy Jim Langdon with the Adams County Sheriff's Office passed away from cancer early Monday morning. The Sheriff's Office announced Langdon's passing on Facebook and said the department was in mourning.

The disease was discovered four months ago in his liver and spread quickly. He'd been a sheriff's deputy for nearly five years. The Sheriff's Office asks the public to keep his friends and family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Langdon also served as a dispatcher in Elbert and Douglas counties. He's a retired marine who was married with a wife and three kids. He's also survived by his sister, his father and his mother.

Senior Deputy Joseph McMullen with the Sheriff's Office trained Langdon and was his patrol partner for a few years. He told 9NEWS that Langdon was like a brother to him. When Langdon told Deputy McMullen about his diagnosis they strategized about dealing with the disease.

"It was, ‘what do we do? How do we beat this?’ We don’t face anything alone and this was no different," McMullen said. "Once he found out that his diagnosis was actually terminal we switched gears to, ‘what do you need? How do we need to take care of your family?’"

He added he'd never forget Langdon's boisterous laugh.

"He was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet," McMullen said. "Truly one of the nicest deputies I've ever had the pleasure of working with and he's going to be very much missed."
