Investigation underway after 'use of force' incident at Adams County jail

The incident occurred on Dec. 13 at the Adams County Detention Center but few other details have been released.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A deputy with the Adams County Sheriff's Office is under investigation after a use-of-force incident last month at the detention center, the Sheriff's Office said on Thursday.

Few details were provided by the Sheriff's Office about the incident, which occurred Dec. 13. It's being investigated by the Westminster Police Department and the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

A spokesperson for the Westminster Police Department declined to comment on the investigation and referred questions back to the Sheriff's Office.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said it will conduct a separate internal investigation at the conclusion of the ongoing criminal investigation to determine whether any internal policy violations occurred during the incident.

The deputy, who was not named, has been placed on restricted duty. Any changes to the status of his employment will be determined at the conclusion of the criminal and internal investigations, the Sheriff's Office said.
