Man pleads guilty in death of DPD officer

DENVER - The man charged in the shooting death of a Denver cop pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Friday.

DENVER - The man charged in the shooting death of a Denver cop pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Friday.

Rollin Oliver, 21, was originally charged with first-degree murder in the City Park shooting death of officer Celena Hollis.

Hollis was killed on June 24 while trying to break up a fight during a jazz concert. Oliver is accused of firing multiple rounds during the altercation.His attorneys have said he was being pursued by gang members.

Prosecutors dropped a charge of first-degree murder in exchange for Oliver's guilty plea.

This will be an aggravated charge, bringing the minimum sentence on the second degree-murder case to 16 years. Under theplea deal reached Friday, he faces a maximum of 26yearsinprison.

Oliver will be sentenced June 21 at 1:30 p.m.

The 32-year-old officer was a single mother who previously worked in Detroit.
