5th bat tests positive for rabies in Jefferson County

EVERGREEN — A fifth bat has tested positive for rabies in Jefferson County according to a Tweet from the county department of health.

The bat was found in Evergreen near South Brook Forests Road and Blue Creek Road on July 9.

Anyone who came in contact with the bat is at risk for contacting Rabies the department of health said. If you believe you were exposed, you're urged to contact your medical provider as soon as possible to begin treatment.

If you come across a bat, do not touch it, instead, call animal control at 303-271-5070 to have it safely removed.

The first rabid bat was found in Lakewood, near Morrison Road and Wadsworth Boulevard on June 13, 2018, according to the department of health.
