WESTMINSTER - Colorado Parks and Wildlife responded to a Westminster neighborhood early Friday morning on reports of a moose wandering through the area.
A concerned neighbor spotted a 400-pound moose at about 5:30 a.m., and notified authorities.
About a half dozen CPW officers responded to the scene, along with Westminster Police, and were able to tranquilize the moose in the front lawn of a home.
From there, they were able to move the moose into a horse trailer and relocate her to a better habitat west of Denver near Park County.
Lauren Truitt with Colorado Parks and Wildlife said spotting a moose in the foothills tends to happen from time to time.
“It’s not common but certainly not rare for moose to be seen along the foothills. They can cover immense distances when just wandering and grazing,” Truitt said. “Obviously the urban environment is not ideal moose habitat but we do get them as visitors.”
Truitt said the moose was likely born sometime last year. Wildlife officers put an ear tag in to track her movement going forward.
CPW shared a video of the moose being tranquilized to their Twitter page. You can watch that below.
