DENVER – Four lion cubs are the latest addition to the Denver Zoo.
The one-year-old cubs arrived early Wednesday morning from the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City, Kansas.
The cubs will hang out in the maternity area of the Predator Ridge exhibit until they are accustomed to their new surroundings and clear a mandatory quarantine period, zoo officials said. Denver Zoo will make an announcement as to when guests can see the cubs at a later time.
The male cubs were born on May 17, 2015 and weigh more than 200 pounds each.
Their African names are Kito, which means jewel; Bahati, meaning lucky; Usiku, meaning night, and Jasiri, meaning adventurous.
Zoo officials say the male cubs were beginning to be pushed out by their father at Lee Richardson Zoo, a natural occurrence that is common in prides as males start to reach sexual maturity.
Denver Zoo is home to four other lions.
