ARVADA, Colo. — A man who was killed in a three-car crash Monday in Arvada was identified as Kresten Wolff Thomsen, 44, according to police.

The crash happened just before 3:40 p.m. at West 64th Avenue and Lamar Place. That intersection is between Wadsworth Boulevard and Sheridan Avenue in Arvada.

Police said a silver GMC pickup being driven by 23-year-old Juan Ortega Torres Jr. was headed east on 64th Avenue. Torres ran a red light and crashed into a maroon Toyota sedan that was headed north on Lamar Street.

The impact of the crash sent the Toyota into a resident's yard and home. Thomsen was driving the Toyota and was killed in the crash, police said.

Thomsen's two children were also in the car and were rushed to area hospitals. One of the children suffered serious injuries, according to police.

After the pickup driver hit the Toyota, he kept going on 64th and struck a gray Ford Bronco that was driving in the opposite direction. The driver of the Bronco was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

"We do believe drugs or alcohol are involved in this crash," said Arvada Polices spokesman David Snelling.

Torres was taken to a hospital. After being released from the hospital, he was taken into custody pending official charges, police said.

Arvada Police initially said the crash involved four vehicles. The fourth vehicle was at the intersection during the crash but wasn't hit.
